National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

NAMI and its local chapter, NAMI Orange County, are organizations also dedicated to mental illness education and advocacy. NAMI Orange County hosts a series of Signature Programs throughout the year that are designed to educate patients (Peer-to-Peer) and families (Family-to-Family) about mental illness through ten and twelve week education courses.

NAMI Orange County hosts weekly support groups, NAMI Connections, for consumers (patients). Support groups intended for families to connect with other families are held as well. Orange County Psychiatric Society: http://www.ocps.org.

Psychiatrists are the primary mental health advocates for quality patient care. The Orange County Psychiatric Society (OCPS), a district branch of the American Psychiatric Association, represents over 270 psychiatrists. The organization works to improve public awareness of mental illness and increase financial support of psychiatric care. Among other things, the website contains referral lists of both Orange County Psychiatrists and Orange County Hospitals with Psychiatric Units.
